Care Compass is a social initiative geared towards ensuring proper access to treatment, supportive services, and awareness of children coming from underserved backgrounds who have been diagnosed with cancer. In April 2026, the program was launched following the recognition of the numerous challenges beyond medical concerns that many families go through when their children suffer from cancer. While dealing with the costs associated with treating children suffering from such illnesses, many parents and caretakers find it difficult to access information and support networks.
The Care Compass will provide information, awareness, and funding through its advocacy, educational programs, fundraising activities, and other forms of engagement with the aim of making lives better for affected families and their children.
A critical aspect of the campaign was the development of a supportive ecosystem for caregivers, which encompassed practical advice and emotional resilience. It entailed developing a manual comprising different modules with information about charities and organizations dealing with paediatric oncology, resources for treatment navigation, nutritional tips for child patients undergoing treatment, and examples of children and families' resilience that made their way out of recovery from their condition. In addition to raising awareness and educating the target communities, the project also aimed at bridging the gap between medical studies and the general population by producing research articles, known as Pointing North Commentaries, which translated recent findings in oncology, immunotherapy, pediatric cancer care, diagnostics, and public health to everyday people.
Another key aspect of the Care Compass project was engaging in community impact activities to raise money for CanKids in supporting financially challenged children with cancer. Such was accomplished through organizing the fundraising event dubbed Directing Care and creating the Under the Canopy Treatment Fund, which raised funds for treatment-related activities.
In addition to encouraging open communication among parents/caregivers through well-informed discussions, the Care Compass project has also facilitated 'Navigate Care Sessions,' enabling oncology specialists to directly engage with parents/carers on various issues, including treatment options, emotional wellness, typical caregiver concerns, nutritional aspects related to cancer care/recovery, and caring for kids during recovery from cancer.
By emphasizing awareness, empowering caregivers, and assisting with treatments, Care Compass seeks to become an effective source of information and compassion in the fight against childhood cancer.
